Learn All About Root Canal Therapy
When you have a diseased tooth that won’t stop hurting, you want expert help fast. Dr. King is our resident endodontist – a dentist specially trained to perform root canal treatment. You can trust him to provide you exceptional care if your tooth needs repair.
When a cavity or tooth damage is left untreated, tooth decay can eventually reach the soft tissue inside the tooth (known as the pulp). When the pulp becomes infected, you can experience intense pain.
Usually, a root canal procedure is the best treatment option at this point. With it, Dr. King can relieve your pain and, in most cases, avoid having to remove your tooth.
First, he will create a small opening in the top of the tooth so he can access the pulp. Using special dental tools, he will then remove the pulp and apply disinfecting medication inside the tooth. Next, he will gently shape the root canals and fill them with a rubber-like material to seal them and help prevent reinfection. Finally, he will repair the opening in the tooth with a composite resin material.
To fully restore the function and beauty of your tooth, we can cap it with a sturdy CEREC crown made right in our office. The crown will strengthen the tooth and help prevent additional problems. Best of all, CEREC technology allows us to make your crown while you wait. You won’t have to return to our office to have it placed!
