Basically, I picked him out in the Yellow Pages, if you will. Just found him online. Primarily, I think the reason that I like coming here is the practice is very technologically advanced. I don't walk out the door with a temporary crown. I come in, we laid out a plan two years ago. We've got this number, I think there were eight crowns I had to do. And we just did them in sequence, and in the order that they needed to be repaired. But again, you know, I could come in, in the chair for a couple hours, do all the prep work, and they've got the technology here to make the final crown, put it in my mouth, and send me out the door.
I have no idea if it's even more expensive than other practices. I just know when I compare notes with my colleagues or with my friends about the way I can come in here, get it start to finish, I don't walk out with a temporary crown, they’re like, "Really? I didn't know that that was available to be done."
So, that's the biggest thing I like about it. And in my job, where I'm meeting bankers, I'm with customers or suppliers, it's very important that you project a confident image. So I've always – my smile lines around my eyes, can tell I smile a lot. Having come here and getting my dental health to where it should be has improved my confidence in my smile.

After 40 years of smoking and misbehavior, my teeth were ... my upper teeth were basically opaque. You could almost see through them. There was no discomfort, but they were basically deteriorating rapidly. They were part by part just breaking off. There are commercials on TV where they're (laughter, covering mouth), and I was very much in that mode, because the smile was just not there. So I basically had to have a mouth reconstruction done. We had ... it was going on for, I think, all last year basically, and this year as well. I had a vision in mind and a goal because my daughter was getting married, and I didn't wanna have broken teeth for my daughter's wedding.
It was quite a surprise for everybody because most of them hadn't seen me with the new smile. And on top of everything else, I had beard for the last 15 years. When my daughter came down and I was supposed to see her in all her glory, she hadn't seen me, so I went ahead and shaved while she was getting ready. So she came down and I had a great big smile, clean shaven as well. So it was quite a surprise for her, and everybody else was ... they were all very happy to see how good it looked. I made sure that, as silly as this perhaps sounds, when I was given the options of what color to use for my teeth, I didn't want to go white white white because I felt that white white white on a 70-year-old man is kind of silly because that's almost impossible. You're gonna have a Coke. You're gonna have a cup of coffee. Your teeth aren't gonna be white. So I went to the next level down so that it would be what I consider to be more expectant. Everybody loves it.

I have bad teeth, and I have a lot of fillings. The fillings were showing through the front of the teeth, so I looked like I had black teeth. So he did what he needed to do, and he put crowns and he put bridges, and now I don't have that. So now I'm much more comfortable when it comes to smiling.
It was smooth. It was great. He was done in no time, but he's very meticulous, very meticulous in what he does, and I like that. Since I've had the crowns and the bridge, bridges put in, I talk more and I smile more.
I love the group of people that work here. They're pleasant. They're always on top of everything. Dr. Garrett is the best. I've been going to dentists for years, and I really enjoy coming to see Dr. Garrett. He makes you comfortable. He's pleasant all the time. Everybody's pleasant. I never had a problem.
At Carolina Bright Smiles, you can expect to be treated like family, to be pampered. They go out of their way not to hurt you. They explain everything that they're going to do in advance, and they make sure that you're comfortable with it.

I'm 49 years old, and I actually cracked a tooth, and I had to have a crown. I never thought I'd have to have that kind of dental work, and so I had a crown, and this is actually something that most people, the service that they have here, where I was able to come in, they took care of my tooth, they took a digital photo of it or image of it, and they have a machine here on premises that, while I was sitting and waiting with the one broken tooth, they were able to make me my new crown on the spot, where a lot of people, and most anybody else that I know, they end up with a temporary after they take the images and go home and then have to come back when the crown is made somewhere else and comes in. Here, it's a one-stop shop. That's perfect. That's something for me that worked out really, really well.
I've had a couple cavities that I've had just basic filling on, but, again, it's, everything is very, very organized, very well run, no complaints. I think there had been a cavity from many, many years ago in that tooth, and the old cavities, which were the silver ones, I guess they break down, if I remember this correctly. They break down after so many years, and so that's what had happened. It was in a spot that when that cavity started to come out, that just the right crunch on whatever it was, I think, cracked the tooth, if I remember right, but yeah, that's how that happened.
When I came in and they looked at it like, "Yeah, you're probably going to need one." "Okay. I guess so," so we just, we scheduled it and came back and, like I said, from getting in here, I think from beginning to end, it might have been two or three hours, but to walk out of here having had a brand-new crown on and have had no problems since then, that was a couple of years ago. That's the nice thing about it. It's just in and out. No coming back for an extra appointment, wasted time, whatever. Everybody's busy these days, and it's good to be able to get things done efficiently.

One of the things that I've been happiest about with my care here is the fact that Dr. Garrett introduced me to the concept of a six month smile. And I didn't have the opportunity to have braces as a child. And I thought as I got to be an adult, and my teeth were getting more crowded, that I kind of missed the opportunity to have braces, but they showed me that the braces are almost invisible. In fact, most of my coworkers didn't even realize I had anything in my mouth for the six months. But then when they were taken off, and now a couple of years later, my teeth are still straight, they feel great. I'm able to keep them much, much cleaner than I could before. In the past I had coffee stains, and now I can eliminate those daily because my teeth are straight and easy to get to.
So I definitely recommend Six Month Smiles to anyone considering it. It's a great way to go, and it's a simple way to correct adult teeth, and I've been very, very happy that I did that.
I've also had a crown done, and again, the crown was done in-house, and it only took a short period of time, and it fit perfectly. And I was very happy with that, that I didn't have to wait for two weeks and come back later. And of course I've had some fillings replaced and just ongoing hygiene a couple of times a year, and I feel like my teeth are in good care and they're tracking really well my dental needs. So I've been very happy with the care from beginning to end.
One of the things I like about coming here is Dr. Garrett and his staff take a lot of time to explain my options. And sometimes I'm not sure if I want to do a procedure or not, or what the impact might be, but they always take time with their televisions that are right there in front of us. I can see easily a blown up image of what's going on in my mouth, and he can discuss in detail what the treatment options are and what would be the best course forward. And so I don't feel rushed, but I feel very informed and able to make good decisions. And he lets me know different courses that I can consider, and I've been very happy in the courses he's directed me on, and he's got me on a good path to good dental care.

It was nothing to it. I mean you know, you always, the initial reaction to a needle. Well it's not like it used, or at least some places I've had my tooth extracted. The way he numbs it, you never feel anything. And I didn't feel anything. I didn't feel nothing when he was shaving it down, I didn't feel nothing when he was pulling my teeth. Like I said everything was smooth and he's just good. You know, the guy's just good. I had no qualms or nothing, man. The work that I've gotten done, so far, and I don't think I will. I just told them like it was. How they treated me. I told them they treated me just fine and don't be afraid of the needles man, because it ain't like it used to be. You know, at least Dr. [Garrett], you don't know he's in your mouth. And that's what they believe, I mean, I told them just like I feel. I'm not afraid.
You know, I don't like needles but I can be comfortable when Dr. Garrett's doing it. It's just a good atmosphere, you know? And that's a big difference. People are just kind to you, and you know for yourself, they're not like that everywhere you go. And when you spending your money, you want to be treated fair. This is the place for me. Like I said, I've been here about three times and feel like I've been coming here for years to where the people treat you, all of them are just good people.

I had an old crown from a car accident, and an implant, but the implant and the crown was 15, 20 years old. So, doctor Garrett went in with new technology, he was able to make my crown here and implant. So, it was one day, done. Same thing with the crown.
So, I don't have to come back multiple times, or go to a city next door to go get a crown. He can do it here. Along with other procedures, if needed.
I had a lot of dental procedures as a child, and I have suffered with the anxiety through the years, but it makes a big difference, I think it's the people that you're working with, that's working with you. I feel confident, I feel safe.
I like it, because all the girls are very nice, the staff is very friendly, it's clean, very professional. State-of-the-art equipment. I always feel at home here. It's a nice, hometown feeling.
I've been knowing doctor Garrett since he came to Hillsborough. So, first I got to meet him as a personal person, and then as a professional person and he's a super dad, has children. Family man, very oriented, good business man, very professional.

I came to have my teeth cleaned. Jessie was my hygienist. Of course, she figured out that I had periodontal disease and that needed to be taken care of. I remember my appointment, what is 11:00 in the morning. I was a little shaky because I didn't know what I was going to encounter. But no, they put me at ease completely. They did the work. I was there at 11:00 and I didn't go home until 6:00 the evening.
It was interesting because the TVs were on. He's doing surgery on me and both of us were watching the basketball championships. It was hysterical because even if I could talk for a minute, and oh, that person did wow, it was just great. It was kind of fun, actually. Then when he started putting the implants and there was a little gadget about this big that he had to go this way. I said, "Dr. Garrett, I feel like I'm in an auto repair shop," because they were doing crank, crank, crank, crank, crank. Everybody laughed because it was kind of funny. But it hurt? No. It didn't hurt. It was a very good experience.

Dr. Garrett takes on his patients and each, I think their personality, and with my personality, of course I'm in sales and he knows my teeth are very, very important and I'm probably just a little over the top about them, but he always makes sure that they're the best they can be. If I have an emergency, which I had a couple of years ago at Christmas, and coming back on an airplane, I chipped a tooth. The next morning at eight o'clock he was here by himself to fix the tooth. It wasn't that he's going to let me go through the holidays. I think he just takes, again, his patients, he takes it very, very serious.
The atmosphere here from the moment you walk in the door, you're greeted by a wonderful staff with big smiles and they welcome you. Also Dr. Garrett has taken on his patients as a relationship building business. So being in a relationship with and feeling very, very comfortable with your dentist, his assistant and along with his whole staff, really makes you feel like you're with family and friends, and you'd like to come in and you enjoy the experience. I enjoy coming here and they make me feel relaxed, and each room has its own two TVs, and they have great music, and just the whole atmosphere. They have gone the extra mile in this dental practice to make sure the atmosphere is extremely relaxed, and so I would always recommend them and they always is extremely open and welcoming to new patients.

I've had some crowns to be put on and I didn't know I needed them, but he showed me the x-rays instead of just saying, “Okay, you need this, get your checkbook out.” He actually showed me the x-rays and explained to me what was going on and how to avoid a worse situation by taking care of it now. Friendly, smiling, relaxed, it's a relaxed atmosphere from the time you walk in until you leave. And walk you right through everything, explain to you, “Okay, here's what I'm fixing to do,” so there's no surprises. I feel very comfortable here.

Andy Edwards Read Transcript

When we got in here, they took us through a whole plan. They did all the x-rays and everything that we needed, what it was going to cost. What I could have done and what I couldn't have done. And it just worked out great. As far as procedures I've had, he did a partial for me on the bottom. There were no extractions, but I had a lot of cavities. And he of course had the partial done, and the cavities were all repaired and he's helped me to maintain that ever since.
How I benefited it as easily. I can now eat and chew food and I went for almost two years, more like three, to where I could actually not even chew food. The dentist I'd had in the past had convinced me that the best thing for me to do at my age was to pull all my teeth, which is a bad mistake on my part, not to get a second opinion. I would never had that done.
The first comment he made [inaudible] made to be when I came in was, "You need to keep your teeth. We'll do everything we can to help you keep your teeth." And he was so firm in that commitment that I knew this was where I needed to be.
They welcome you when you come in. You're made to feel at home the whole time you're here. And no matter how many times you've been, or in my experience, no matter how many times have you been, they treat you the same. You still get that same welcome home feeling when you come in. And of course you have coffee to drink. And they'll do anything in the world to help you, or to make you feel at home. I mean Bright Smiles, they couldn't have coined them a better name for it. And the staff, again, is just wonderful, too. They make you feel at home, whether you're back there, whether you get one filling or 20, it doesn't matter.

Last year I was diagnosed with cancer and went through chemotherapy, which affects all your body. I mean, it affected my teeth and I broke one of my teeth, it was an old crown and had broken off. And so my husband comes here and I called and they, or he called for me, and we came up and Dr. Garrett and Cameron took care of me. I was really nervous. And so once I got here, Cameron came out and introduced herself and helped me back to where I was going to be because I was, again I was pretty weak and fairly sick. So I met Dr. Garrett and the two of them began to work on me. Like I say, I'm a dentalphobe. And so I was extremely nervous having not met them before and going through all this and he was incredible. I've never met anyone quite as kind as him.
During my procedure. I know there were three different times he completely stopped and stood back and said, "What can I do to make this better for you?" Which is unheard of. I've never ever had anybody say that, and he was just so kind about it. Not that he was aggravated because I was scared or any of those things. He was just, genuinely wanted to know what can I do to make this better for you? And she was incredible. The whole time she held my hand, which was an amazing ... It's not that you're a baby, but in that situation, having so much going on and going through so much, just having her there holding my hand was incredible and just totally wonderful. I mean, the two of them together made my experience here, the absolute best I've ever had in any dental office, or actually in any kind of healthcare professional.

My teeth had, again, age and different things, medicines I was taking, chewing tobacco in the past and smoking in the past, and my teeth had gotten to the point where they were beginning into chip quite a bit. The ends of them were breaking off and I thought, "I need to do something." I'd had them repaired a time or two, but the fact that some of them were different colors than the other ones and it was just when you smile, you went... Keep your mouth shut. But it's better than that now and I knew I had to have it done.
But anyway, when you do 13 crowns, it takes a little bit. But he was good. He numbed me up plenty good and I didn't feel thing, so it was shocking to begin with. I thought we were going to do four or five or maybe do the uppers and take a little break and then do the lowers. But he came in, like I say, that day he goes, he started numbing me up, he said, "We are just going do them all today." It was okay. It didn't bother me and I've had very little problems since, so it worked out good.
A lot of times, and like the other one I went to, they call your name, and that's about the extent of it. "You're here and we're going to have this done, and then when you're done, you're gone. Pay me my money and then go on about your way." But they're people that are good, like Cameron, particularly now, is just real outgoing and you feel like, "Hey, I know her and she knows me," and we bumped into them at Walmart and they recognize you. The other people, I've seen them and walk by them and they didn't know who I am. Of course, they see a lot of people. But I think here they have a little more compassion for patients.

When we first came here, we had an experience as new patients that really locked us in. I think my wife and I had each seen Dr. Garrett one time. One Friday evening we were relaxing, watching TV and my wife was munching on something and one of her front bottom teeth shattered. Of course this was devastating for her. Fortunately there was no pain but she wouldn't even let me see it. "No, it's just too ugly." She went to bed crying. This was about 10:00.
I called Dr. Garrett's office and left a message. My hope was Monday morning, that would be the first voice mail he and his staff would listen to and maybe they could get my wife in Monday morning and fix it. About 11:00 that same Friday night, Dr. Garrett called. I explained the situation. He said, "Have her in here tomorrow morning." He came in Saturday and fixed her and we've been hooked ever since. We didn't really feel like just patients. We felt like family and that's an experience you don't get very often. Been coming back ever since. Now he can't get rid of us.
