Initial Dentures Consultation
Your journey toward a brand-new smile will begin with your initial consultation. Your dentist will give you a comprehensive exam that includes:
- A review of your medical and dental history
- X-rays to gain a better understanding of your oral health
- CBCT 3-D imaging to accurately plan placement
- Impressions to create models of your teeth and gums
Following your consultation, if you aren’t already wearing dentures, we’ll give you a set of temporary dentures to wear while you wait for your implant-supported dentures to be ready. Your temporary dentures will also play the important role of helping our dentists more accurately place your final set of dentures.
The Dentures Process
Your first surgery is when one of our dentists will place your implants. Dental implants have a bio-friendly post that your dentist will embed in your jawbone for a secure hold. Before we complete your dental implants with your dentures, your jaw needs time to heal. You can expect to wait:
- 3-4 months for your lower jaw
- 5-6 months for your upper jaw
To prepare for your second surgery, we’ll place a “healing cap” on each of your dental implants. A couple of weeks later, your implants will be ready to receive their abutments. Your abutments will connect your dental implants to your new set of dentures. Your dentist will take another impression of your mouth, so your final dentures can be created based on your gums and your abutments.
Dentures Are Ready!

Your abutments will be connected to a metal bar or balls to support your dentures. This keeps your dentures off your gums, which will reduce irritation. Your dentures will be placed and adjusted for your comfort. We’ll also show you how to best care for your dentures and your dental implants.
Don’t settle for loose, wobbly dentures that make it hard to speak and chew. Visit Carolina Bright Smiles for implant-supported dentures. Call our Hillsborough, NC dentist office at 919-296-0409 or use our online form to schedule your consultation.
